It's almost August

Facebook has unfortunately been blocked on my work computer so work life just got a little more boring. And Pandora. And YouTube. And all those other fun sites. Maybe it's time to think about investing in a smartphone...

A lot of my friends in Abuja have either left already or on their way out. And I'm about ready to join them. It's been an awesome year. I have done some things I never thought I would have done in Abuja this year:

  • Walked home at almost 5AM in the morning (don't recommend)
  • Jumping in the pool with friends at 3AM (I do recommend this but only if you have a change of clothes or a towel)
  • Partied until I wished I wasn't Asian and actually had a liver (recommend)
  • Met some fantastic people that I hope to stay in touch with (recommend)
  • Gotten really really sick (read: explosive diarrhea) (NOT recommended)
  • Had _________ (recommend highly)
  • Learning how to stitch someone's foot up (FUN!)
  • Thought to be a hooker at a club and had an old man try to pick me up (don't recommend)
  • Get hit on by anything with testosterone and a penis (don't recommend)
  • 80's & 90's Party (highly recommend)
  • Making pasta when totally intoxicated (don't recommend, you burn your tongue)
The list is probably longer but that's all I can think of for now.

No regrets

Living life without regrets. I think that's an incredibly important motto to follow since you only get one shot at this thing called life. These days I think about that a lot. My decision to come all the way to Nigeria has resulted in a mix-bag of feelings. Work hasn't been nearly as fulfilling as I had hoped it would be. I haven't learned what I wanted to nor have I done anything I find that satisfying. But at the same time, I can't say that this year has been a waste. I've met some great people, made awesome friends and experienced a lot of fun new things that I never would have if I had chosen to stay in the US. That being said... I don't know where life is going to take me next.

Long Overdue

Ok, so I've been absent for a while. I could give 90 excuses, but essentially I just got lazy. Turns out there's way more to do in Abuja than Sembabule, which actually isn't saying much. There ISN'T much to do here, but there are a lot more expats. Thus there are more chances to go out and socialize (READ: drink).

Updates... Single but dating (supposedly). I found a new love for Ultimate Frisbee. So much fun. I'm in desperate need of a haircut. Not attracted to Nigerian men- still like my men pretty Americanized and white, it turns out. I'm looking for what to do next with my life and pretty much every time I think about it, I get a massive headache. I have learned to fake it until I make it, like the best of them. I've gotten proposed to at least once by my Nigerian taxi driver and stalked by several other drivers. I do still love the feeling of being a world traveler. My restless spirit has yet to stop bouncing, so who knows where I will go next after Nigeria. But there's no chance I'll stay here another year... I would probably die. Work is painful... to say the least. So let's just say if it weren't for the people I've met to occupy my time outside of work, I'd probably jump into the middle of Abuja traffic and wait to get run over by a moving vehicle and die.

That's all I got for now, but I'll write more soon. I'll do my best to be better about writing. Cheers!
